New Zealand startup created an emotional bot Nadia

New Zealand based startup Soul Machines developed a smart chatbot Nadia, which can communicate with users using the voice of Cate Blanchett. The digital assistant recognizes the conversation partner's emotions and learns in the process of communication.

Nadia is unique because of the emotional intelligence. Due to built-in cameras, speakers and AI algorithms, the chatbot can interpret people’s facial expressions and changes in their speech intonation correctly. Just like human, the bot accumulates acquired knowledge and turns it into experience. Besides, Nadia can simulate human emotions, thus communication with the program resembles communication with a best friend or at least with a good friend.

It is worth noting that the facial animation for the bot was developed by Mark Sagar – a creator of a face capture technology for "Avatar" and "King Kong". As mentioned above, Nadia’s responses were voiced by Cate Blanchett. That is why the chatbot turned out to be truly unique.

The virtual assistant will allow people with disabilities to get easy and quick access to many functions on the computer and the Internet. And, of course, it can be used as a personal assistant.
